While Shamrock wasn’t directly involved in the incident, the controversy had a significant emotional impact on him, particularly because of his close relationship with Bret Hart. Hart had been instrumental in helping Shamrock break into the wrestling world, mentoring him and teaching him the ropes of the business. This personal connection made the situation difficult for Shamrock, as he was caught in the middle of a larger conflict between two major figures in WWE.

Despite the challenges, Shamrock continued to wrestle for WWE, but eventually, he faced a critical moment that led to his decision to leave the company. He acknowledged that wrestling is entertainment, but he felt it was more important to maintain consistency between his actions and the lessons he imparted to his children. “It wasn’t that WWE had it out for me,” Shamrock said. “It was just that I had to make decisions based on what I believed was right for me and my family.”

He explained, “I loved wrestling and probably would have stayed longer if I felt there was a direction for me, but I just didn’t feel like there was.”
