Moses “Shyne” Barrow, the former rapper who served nearly a decade in prison for his involvement in a 1999 nightclub shooting in New York, has spoken out following the recent federal indictment of Sean “Diddy” Combs. The nightclub incident, which also involved Diddy and his then-girlfriend Jennifer Lopez, led to a series of legal troubles for all parties involved.
At the time of the shooting, Diddy and JLo were arrested, and although Diddy was acquitted of all charges after claiming he fired the gun in self-defense, the incident had lasting consequences. Shyne, who was convicted in connection with the shooting and sentenced to prison, has long been critical of Diddy, claiming the mogul turned his back on him.
In a press conference, Shyne reflected on their past relationship, describing it as one where he took the fall for Diddy. He claimed that he had been loyal to Diddy as a young man trying to make a name for himself but was later betrayed. Shyne accused Diddy of calling witnesses to testify against him, which ultimately led to his conviction and years of incarceration. “This is someone who destroyed my life,” Shyne stated.
Despite his feelings of betrayal, Shyne admitted that he reconnected with Diddy in recent years for business purposes. He sought Diddy’s investment to help further his political and educational initiatives, but stressed that their professional interactions should not be misconstrued as a personal reconciliation. “We were not friends, we were not brothers. This is someone who destroyed my life,” Shyne reiterated.
Shyne’s remarks come amid Diddy’s arrest on charges of racketeering, conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Diddy has pleaded not guilty to all charges, with a judge denying bail ahead of his trial. E! News reached out to Diddy’s legal team for comment but has not yet received a response.
Shyne’s public statement highlights the ongoing tensions between him and Diddy, and offers a glimpse into the fractured relationship that has spanned over two decades.
