In a rare moment of openness, Winona Ryder shared her thoughts on love and relationships in an interview with The Edit, revealing why she’s never walked down the aisle. The famously private actress, known for her serious approach to romance, opened up to Neda Porter about her relationship history and what her standards for love truly are.
Ryder describes herself as a “serial monogamist,” admitting, “I was single for a while and dating, and I just didn’t know how to do it.” Her past relationships include a highly publicized engagement to Johnny Depp in 1990, as well as a romance with Matt Damon in 1998, which ended in 2000.
When asked about marriage, the 44-year-old actress shared, “I’d rather never have been married than been divorced a few times. When your parents are madly in love for 45 years, your standards are really high.” Ryder’s parents’ long-lasting love has clearly set a high bar for what she expects in her own relationships.
Though she has never been married, Winona seems perfectly content in her long-term relationship with fashion designer Scott Mackinlay Hahn. The couple has reportedly been together since 2011, enjoying a relationship away from the public eye.
