He got stopped by Galal Yafai, who was on fire – well, not really on fire, but more like extremely relaxed and methodical in his approach. He was just so poised, walking forward and putting shots together at his own pace, enjoying every moment of it.

He would walk back to his corner, and it didn’t even look like he was breathing hard. But when you look at the result, Galal Yafai just stopped Sunny Edwards in round seven. Edwards had been unbeaten up until he got knocked out by Rodriguez, and we know Rodriguez is one hell of a fighter, but no one had done that to Sunny Edwards before.

We didn’t know how good Galal Yafai was going to be moving forward, or if he was ready for a world title, but after tonight, it’s clear he’s a lot better than most people thought. Everyone thought this was going to be a tough fight. I saw Galal Yafai earlier in the changing rooms before the fight, and he was relaxed and confident. But sometimes you put on that persona when deep down you’re thinking, “This is the toughest test I’ve faced, this could go either way.” But it was a one-sided beating in favor of Galal.

He was so relaxed, sticking behind his jab, walking forward, throwing body shots and head shots, making every shot count. Sunny Edwards was throwing back, trying to land big shots, but none of it was effective. He lost every round, right up until the referee stepped in in round seven. It was just an outclassing, and I don’t want to take anything away from Sunny Edwards because he’s had a great career, but tonight Galal Yafai was on another level.

I spoke to him in the changing room after the fight, and I couldn’t believe how relaxed he was. It felt like he didn’t even get out of first gear. He didn’t look bothered at all. When he went back to the corner, it looked like he had so much energy left. It was almost too easy. I never want a fight to be that easy, and while I don’t want to discredit Sunny Edwards in any way, I expected more from him. We don’t know what his training camp was like, or if the knockout loss to Rodriguez had taken something out of him. But tonight, he was simply outclassed by a Galal Yafai who was at his absolute best.

So, after this performance, where does Galal go next? Would I throw him straight into a fight with Rodriguez? Probably not. Rodriguez is an absolute monster. We saw what he did to Sunny Edwards with that brutal knockout, and I think Galal needs a couple more fights to build up. But after tonight, we know for sure that Galal Yafai belongs at world level.

Now, it’s official: Sunny Edwards has announced his retirement. He said his legs were gone after the fight, and while I don’t want to take anything away from Galal’s performance, I can understand why Sunny Edwards is calling it quits. He’s had a brilliant career, but you could tell after this fight that the desire just wasn’t there anymore. He said it himself, that his legs were gone, and I think that’s the point where you have to think about your future and what’s best for you.

Galal Yafai, on the other hand, is on the rise. He has a bright future ahead of him. I hope to catch up with him soon and get his thoughts on what comes next. It was a world-class performance from him, and I’m excited to see what happens next for him. He’s ready for the big stage.

Now, I caught up with Galal in the changing rooms after his win, and I asked him how it felt. He said he felt strong and just too good for Edwards. He gave all the credit to his trainer, Rob McCracken, and GB Boxing, and he was humble about the whole thing. But it was clear to me that he knew this was his night, and he delivered in a big way. He was confident, composed, and took control of the fight from start to finish.
