Miami Dolphins wide receiver Grant DuBose, 23, was rushed to the hospital after sustaining a severe head injury during his team’s game against the Houston Texans on December 14th. The injury occurred late in the third quarter when DuBose took a helmet-to-helmet hit from Texans safety Alen Bullock.
The intense collision left DuBose motionless on the field, prompting immediate medical attention. Medical staff quickly arrived, unscrewing his face mask and cutting off his jersey before applying a neck brace. DuBose was then carefully placed on a stretcher and wheeled off the field while his teammates clapped in support.
The Texans’ Bullock was flagged for unnecessary roughness by the referees following the hit. This game was especially significant for DuBose, as it marked his return to the field after being placed on injured reserve back in September due to a shoulder injury.
The Dolphins released a statement confirming DuBose had been ruled out of the remainder of the game with a head injury. The team assured fans that he was in stable condition and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa expressed his concern for DuBose during his postgame press conference. Reflecting on the hit, Tagovailoa mentioned feeling guilty for putting DuBose in harm’s way, emphasizing the physical risks of the sport. “I just feel bad that I even put him in that situation to have gotten hit,” Tagovailoa said.
The Dolphins lost the game 20-12 to the Texans, but the focus now shifts to DuBose’s health and recovery. As of now, the young wide receiver’s condition is being closely monitored, and the team remains hopeful for his swift recovery. The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of contact sports and the importance of player safety in the NFL.
