Meghan McCain is not holding back in her criticism of Meghan Markle’s upcoming Netflix lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, which is set to premiere on January 15th. The former The View co-host voiced her strong disapproval on social media, accusing the Duchess of Sussex of being out of touch with the reality of most Americans.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on January 2nd, McCain revealed that she was initially a supporter of Meghan Markle, admiring her style and charisma. However, McCain’s opinion shifted after Meghan’s decision to step away from her royal duties and publicly criticize the royal family. McCain criticized Meghan for seemingly abandoning “British aristocracy” to embrace a new life in America, claiming that Meghan’s new direction is part of what has made her less relatable to the public.
McCain pointed out the tone-deaf nature of Meghan’s new series, which features her cooking, gardening, and spending time with celebrity friends such as Mindy Kaling, Roy Choy, Alice Waters, and her Suits co-star Abigail Spencer. McCain wrote that Meghan’s show feels “highly curated, produced, and out of touch,” especially given the serious issues facing the world today. “There have been two terror attacks in two days, major wars raging, and Americans can’t pay for groceries,” McCain wrote, calling out the disconnect between the show’s lavish portrayal of Meghan’s life and the struggles many Americans are dealing with.
McCain also offered Meghan a suggestion for a more meaningful show, writing, “I would have told her to do a show helping bring fresh food to food deserts in low-income neighborhoods. Do something to help people instead of your ego.” McCain’s harsh words didn’t stop there. She concluded her post with a blunt message to Meghan, saying, “This is why the world doesn’t like you. Nothing else—just completely and utterly tone-deaf to the moment.”
Despite McCain’s scathing critique, Meghan Markle appears undeterred. The Duchess of Sussex shared the trailer for her new series on Instagram, expressing excitement about the project and gratitude for the support she’s received. In her post, Meghan wrote, “I have been so excited to share this with you. I hope you love the show as much as I love making it. Wishing you all a fantastic new year—thanks to our amazing crew and the team at Netflix. Beyond grateful for the support and fun.”
While McCain’s comments have sparked a lot of attention, it seems the backlash has not impacted Meghan’s enthusiasm for her new series. As the show’s release date approaches, it’s clear that the public conversation surrounding Meghan Markle continues to be filled with strong opinions from all sides.
