In a high-profile legal dispute, actor and director Justin Baldoni has accused Ryan Reynolds of aggressively berating him during a confrontation that took place at the actor’s New York penthouse. The lawsuit, filed by Baldoni on December 31, claims that Reynolds verbally attacked him over a misunderstanding involving Baldoni’s comments about Blake Lively’s weight during the filming of It Ends With Us.
According to the filing, the altercation occurred after Baldoni allegedly asked Lively’s fitness trainer about her weight in relation to a scene in the movie. Baldoni stated that his inquiry was intended to ensure Lively’s safety, as she suffers from back issues and multiple bulging discs. He wanted to ensure she could perform a lift in a particular scene without risking injury. However, Lively reportedly perceived the question as criticism about her body, particularly after the actress had recently given birth to her and Reynolds’ fourth child.
The lawsuit claims that Reynolds, in defense of his wife, “aggressively berated” Baldoni during a meeting at the couple’s penthouse. Baldoni describes the encounter as humiliating and inappropriate, especially with other celebrity guests present at the time. Reynolds allegedly accused Baldoni of fat-shaming Lively and made the confrontation feel hostile and intense.
This legal action follows a separate lawsuit filed by Lively against Baldoni, in which she accused him of secretly contacting her fitness trainer without her knowledge and asking for her to lose weight in a short time frame. Lively contended that Baldoni made the request under the pretense of concern for a scene that required her to be lifted, but she argued that such a scene never existed.
Baldoni is also suing the New York Times for publishing what he calls false allegations based on this incident. The actor insists that the reporting was defamatory and damaging to his reputation. In response, the New York Times has stated that it stands by its story, emphasizing that its reporting was thorough, accurate, and based on a careful review of original documents.
This legal battle has brought intense public scrutiny to the behind-the-scenes dynamics of It Ends With Us, as both Baldoni and Lively continue to offer differing accounts of the events in question.
