Firerose expresses regret about the trust she placed in Billy Ray, stating, “All I ever tried to do was love and trust this person, which was very ignorant of me. I really wanted to believe that he was the good version of the man I’d fallen in love with.” She recalls meeting him in 2010, when he was still married to his ex-wife, Tish Cyrus, and how he quickly began calling her his “soulmate.” With hindsight, she acknowledges that she was “love bombed” and wishes she could have warned her younger self to avoid the relationship entirely. “When I think about what I just went through, I would have told my 22-year-old self to run in the opposite direction and never look back,” she admits.

After moving to Billy Ray’s farm near Nashville and marrying him in 2023, Firerose began to notice significant changes in her personality due to his “really protective” behavior. “All of a sudden, instead of being my normal lively, outgoing self, I became very introverted,” she explains. Despite her determination to make the marriage work, Firerose ultimately realized that it was too late to salvage their relationship. “What was even worse was he blamed me somehow for everything that had previously gone wrong in his life,” she recalls. She continued to pour her heart into the marriage, but just seven months after their wedding, Billy Ray filed for divorce in May 2024, citing irreconcilable differences. The divorce was finalized in August, with both parties making allegations of abuse and fraud against each other.

Now, Firerose is choosing to share her story to raise awareness about the complexities of toxic relationships. “I share this story only with the hope that somehow there’s more awareness that this is much more common than anyone would like to think,” she says. “I had to learn that it was something outside of me—something that I couldn’t fix.”
