In a recent interview, the Dagestani fighter specifically revealed details about the injury he sustained at the end of 2024.

“When I was in Dagestan, I punched something with my hand. I went to the doctor, and they did an X-ray, and they said, ‘Your hand is broken.’ After about 20 days, I checked again, and at that point, I was only running to keep my body in good shape. I was just trying to run and shadowbox. After another 20 days, everything had improved.”

“When I started training my punches again, I also tried doing submissions, wrestling, or anything I could. Then I called my manager Ali and told him, ‘Hey, I want to fight.’ He replied, ‘But you’re injured.’ I still made up my mind.”

Umar Nurmagomedov confirmed that he broke his arm just a few months before fighting Merab Dvalishvili

“You’re crazy, you can’t fight like that,” my manager said. When the UFC asked me again, they called and asked if I wanted to fight Merab. Of course, I said yes. I called Ali and urged him to prepare the paperwork for the fight.”

At this point, people remembered that at the end of November, Umar posted a photo on his social media with the caption: “I have a small fracture in my arm and can’t fight in January. Now my arm is fine and I’m ready for any offers.”

However, less than a week later, UFC 311 was announced with Umar Nurmagomedov set to challenge Merab Dvalishvili. The back-and-forth comments between Umar and Merab to hype up the fight seemed to make the audience temporarily forget about the condition of the Dagestani fighter.
