Two months on from his shock defeat by Bakhram Murtazaliev, Tim Tszyu has given a brutal appraisal of his performance during the fight while issuing an apology to members of the Australian public.
It was his second successive defeat after he lost via split decision against Sebastian Fundora in March, with some questions hanging over the 30-year-old’s future in the sport.
While Tszyu has kept a low profile in recent months, he has never shied away from a challenge, with the defiant boxer set to return to training at the beginning of 2025 as he looks to turn his career around following the back-to-back losses.
He has, though, been left licking his wounds after he was knocked down four times during his third-round knockout defeat by Murtazaliev.
‘I let a lot of people down,’ he told The Advertiser.
‘We’re all in this journey together, and so many people are invested in me emotionally and it was such a letdown on my behalf.’

Tszyu gave a brutal assessment of his defeat by Murtazaliev, claiming that he ‘got humiliated’
It was his second successive defeat, witht he Aussie fighter being knocked down multiple times before the fight was called in the third round
Tszyu recounted that he had suffered some horrible concussion symptoms following the fight and spent the night throwing up while in hospital.
‘What burns me is that I wasn’t able to show myself. I just got humiliated and embarrassed in front of the whole world,’ he said.
But he is hungry to get back to his best.
‘It wasn’t just a loss for me, it was a loss for Australia – everyone felt it. And I don’t want that feeling ever again, so I’ll keep working towards happiness for all of Australia.’
Tszyu vowed to return to the ring at some stage in the future but gave a brutally honest verdict on how the fight went.
Before he returns to training, Tszyu is set to marry his partner, Alexandra Constantine, next weekend. The pair have been together for eight years, with Tszyu reportedly popping the question on Christmas Eve, after they had been on a walk in the park with their French bulldog, Pablo.
But he revealed that since his last fight both he and members of his family have been targeted by trolls online.
‘There’s been a lot of love, but a lot of people are down too. There’s been a few haters,’ he said.

Tszyu has insisted he is going to bounce back with talk emerging he could agree a deal to fight Michael Zerafa
‘Not for myself, I’m easy, I don’t mind when people hate – that just means you’re doing something right. But not to my missus, not to my family. That’s not right.’
Having now spent much of 2024 in Las Vegas undertaking two extending training camps, Tszyu is now planning to return back home to Australia and has put plans of permanently relocating to the USA on hold.
He now wants to take things back to basics for his next camp and do away with statistics and technology and simply ‘grind’ in the gym.
There is talk that he could meet with Michael Zerafa over a much anticipated all-Australian boxing clash between the pair.
It was revealed this week that talks over a potential fight are underway but there is one big catch, with Zerafa claiming Tszyu has requested a warm-up fight before committing to he bout.
The showdown could take place later in 2025, with their rivalry dating back several yearas.
Zerafa had previously withdrawn from a meeting between the pair in 2021. That sparked widespread animosity between the camps. Tszyu had subsequently been reluctant to re-engage with Zerafa, who was confident that the meeting would happen.
‘Talks are ongoing, and I believe this fight will take place in 2025,’ Zerafa had said.
Zerafa criticized Tszyu’s hesitation, claiming, ‘Tim is running scared.’
‘He knows if it’s three losses in a row, everything is over for him.’
