Khabib Nurmagomedov Shrugs Off Complacency, Describing Islam Makhachev vs Renato Moicano Fight As “Competitive”
Renato Moicano and Khabib Nurmagomedov
Khabib Nurmagomedov has been a disciplined fighter all throughout his life. In the era of trash talking, ‘The Eagle’ has been the one that has always respected his opponents. And while he has retired, the Dagestani is still maintaining the same level of respect for the future stars. As Islam Makhachev will face a new opponent on UFC 311, Nurmagomedov doesn’t want his best pupil to become complacent.
On paper, Renato Moicano might look like an easier opponent than Arman Tsarukyan. However, the Brazilian does possess enough firepower to dethrone an overconfident champion. Thus, Nurmagomedov sounded cautious as he gave Moicano his due flowers.
Speaking to UFC, ‘The Eagle’ said, “Now, for the new main event, I think Moicano has a lot of experience—how many? Like 10 or 11 years in the UFC. He’s on a four-fight win streak, and he’s in his prime. You know, it’s a good fight. Of course, it’s not like Arman and Islam, but it’s still a very competitive fight, and we’re not going to underestimate this guy.”
Well, while Nurmagomedov might be taking measured steps, Makhachev’s opponent is going full blast verbally. Ahead of his January 18 matchup, the Brazilian issued a chilling warning.
Renato Moicano Vows To Spell ‘Trouble’ For Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Star Pupil
Renato Moicano is in some fine form at the moment. Having won 4 of his last four bouts, the Brazilian is riding high on confidence. In fact, his last knockout win against Benoit Saint-Denis boosted his position as a dominant fighter in the lightweight division. Thus, coming to the UFC title fight, Moicano wants Islam Makhachev to feel threatened.
Interacting with UFC, the Brazilian said, “I think I’ll beat Islam tomorrow. I truly believe that… he’s in trouble tomorrow.”
Well, the reactions from both camps are quite contradictory. However, when the two meet inside the closed cage, it will be a full-blown war. Thus, getting an unexpected opportunity to hit gold, it remains to be seen whether Renato Moicano can capitalize.
