Anthony Joshua is determined to fight Tyson Fury in 2025

Pushing himself to arrange a fight with Tyson Fury shows that Anthony Joshua is truly in a rush with his career.

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury both suffered complete defeats in their title fights in 2024. Joshua’s knockout loss to Daniel Dubois made it clear that the 2012 Olympic champion has truly fallen behind compared to others in his weight class.

For Tyson Fury, his second loss to Oleksandr Usyk is the clearest evidence that facing the Ukrainian puncher is not the “door” for The Gypsy King to reclaim the throne.

With Daniel Dubois determined to target Usyk again, thoughts turn to the potential UK showdown. Anthony Joshua is the one eager to push for this fight as soon as possible.

“I’ve been in many fights, but this one has to happen in 2025. I really hope it will happen. Time is limited, so I want to focus more on my training.”

“Time is the issue. Looking back at 2024, I believe I could have done more, and I believe I will have more opportunities next year. I’m sure I’ll seize every opportunity that comes my way and keep pushing forward.”

Anthony Joshua wants to finalize the fight with Tyson Fury

“My life has had its ups and downs, so I have to get used to the tough times and keep pushing forward. I can’t stop; I have to keep going until I reach my destiny.”

In the past, Joshua and Fury shared the biggest titles in the heavyweight boxing world in 2020. However, the rise of Oleksandr Usyk took everything from both of them, consecutively over the past four years.

Even though neither holds any titles now, the reputations of Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are a guarantee for any stage. Moreover, this is a clash of the biggest stars in British boxing over the past decade.

Joshua and his goal for 2025

Anthony Joshua, 35 years old, recently confirmed his goal to fight Tyson Fury in 2025. Speaking during his visit to Nigeria, Joshua said: “In 2025, I’m aiming for Tyson Fury. I have to keep pushing and not stop until I achieve my goal.”

Joshua also reflected on his loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024, which marked his fourth defeat in his professional career. “The loss has made me hungrier, it makes me want to work even harder,” Joshua admitted.

Joshua is expected to return to the ring in the summer of 2025, with the goal of either rematching Daniel Dubois or facing Tyson Fury.

Tyson Fury, once an undefeated champion, is also seeking opportunities to restore his reputation after two consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk. Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s manager, stated: “This is the perfect time for the two fighters to face off. Both are in the later stages of their careers and need a big win to reassert their names.”

The significance of the much-awaited showdown

If the fight takes place, it will be one of the biggest boxing events in British history. Joshua and Fury are two of the greatest talents of the current boxing generation, both having conquered the most prestigious titles in the world of boxing. A showdown at Wembley would be the pinnacle of both their careers, with millions of fans worldwide eagerly watching.

Although news of the fight is circulating, there has been no official confirmation from either side. Eddie Hearn revealed that Joshua is set to fight twice in 2025, but it is still uncertain whether the priority will be Dubois or Fury.

Fury drops in boxing rankings after defeat to Usyk

The “Gypsy King,” former boxing champion, dropped two spots in the WBO (World Boxing Organization) heavyweight rankings after his second consecutive loss to Oleksandr Usyk in December. In the rematch in Saudi Arabia before Christmas, Fury was unable to reclaim the world titles from the Ukrainian opponent, causing him to fall to third place in the WBO heavyweight rankings.

However, Fury still maintains the number one spot in the WBC (World Boxing Council) heavyweight rankings. Yet, he is absent from the WBA (World Boxing Association) rankings.

Fury expressed his displeasure with the referee’s decision in that fight: “I believe I won this fight. I was aggressive, took control, and landed shots to both the head and body of my opponent. But they gave Usyk a Christmas gift.”
