When it comes to food, pizza is always a delightful choice. It’s a comfort food that satisfies my cravings, but on the other hand, sweet potatoes have become a source of disappointment. During strict diets, my trainer, Dave, often recommends adding more carbohydrates to my meals. While I appreciate the intention, the excitement I feel quickly turns to dismay when sweet potatoes appear on my plate. It’s not that I can’t appreciate their health benefits; it’s just that they don’t spark joy for me.
Balancing enjoyment and necessity in my fitness routine is essential. There’s a thrill that comes from specific forms of cardio, especially with the physiotherapy I’ve undertaken for my hamstring and glutes. Running has surprisingly become a newfound passion, offering both physical challenge and mental clarity. However, I also cherish weight training. There’s nothing quite like the rush of a good pump after a workout. That feeling strengthens the hard work put in and keeps me motivated.
After a workout, relaxation is key. I love putting my feet up and unwinding, whether it’s hanging out with my dog, Cow, playing video games, or diving into a good book. These moments of leisure are crucial, as they provide a much-needed break from the intensity of training.
Yet, with all the highs come fear. One of my biggest anxieties is the thought of Cow disappearing. It’s a fear I’ve faced a couple of times, and it’s a stark reminder of the fragility of life.
When it comes to my workout mindset, I remind myself that fitness isn’t meant to be easy. Embracing the challenge and approaching workouts with determination is essential for growth. Each person’s fitness journey is unique, and for me, considering every possibility has been transformed.
I’ve learned the importance of doing fitness my way. Seeking guidance from knowledgeable sources is invaluable, but incorporating my preferences into my routine yields the best results. If I had known years ago where I’d be physically today, it might have changed my approach.
As for sacrifices, I’d gladly give up sweets in favor of pizza and cheese any day. Those are the comforts that truly bring me joy.
In terms of tools, my Polar watch has become an essential part of my workouts. While I could manage without it, the convenience it provides is undeniable. It helps me estimate calorie burn and keeps me on track, especially during my runs.
Finally, I remind myself that there are elements beyond my control, and worrying about them is futile. My musical tastes vary; sometimes I gravitate towards country music, while other times, I enjoy heaviest sounds like those from Disturbed. Each genre has its place, much like the diverse elements in my fitness and nutrition journey.
Finding balance in exercise and nutrition continues to be an evolving process, and I’m excited to see where it leads me next.
