On a peaceful island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, an ancient legend tells the story of a hero who can save the world from disaster. The story opens with the setting of Moana’s village, where she and her family have lived in peace for generations. However, from ancient omens and dwindling resources, a journey awaits her out on the vast ocean.

The legend tells of a demigod named Maui, who may be the key to saving Moana’s village and island. Maui – with his magical hook – has supernatural powers, has fought monsters, slowed down the sun to make the days longer, and even created new islands from the sea. All of this makes Maui a legendary hero in the minds of the people of the Pacific Islands. However, with his arrogant and humorous personality, Maui is not always a pleasant companion.

Moana, with her courage and determination, is not at all intimidated by Maui. When they meet, Maui introduces himself with his usual arrogance: “I am Maui, shapeshifter, demigod of the Wind and the Sea, hero of mankind.” Moana interrupts, but Maui interrupts to emphasize his greatness, then continues with humorous self-satisfaction. Although somewhat arrogant and somewhat showy, Maui is a trustworthy companion with extraordinary skills and strength.
