Lil Yachty Apologizes to Nicki Minaj for Picking Cardi B Over Her + Explains His Reasoning

In a recent interview, Lil Yachty openly apologized to Nicki Minaj for inserting himself into the drama between the two hip-hop queens. For those who might have missed it, back when Nicki and Cardi B were having a public feud, the hip-hop community was divided, with many choosing sides. Lil Yachty was one of the artists who publicly declared himself to be Team Cardi.

In an interview with Shannon Sharpe, Yachty admitted that he made a mistake by taking sides and involving himself in something that had nothing to do with him. He recalled a moment when he was asked whether he felt obligated to pick a side between Cardi and Nicki, to which he responded unequivocally, “Cardi B’s all the time, every time.” This allegiance led to Yachty claiming he wouldn’t work with Nicki even if she asked, causing a rift between him and the “Super Bass” rapper. Nicki, understandably, blocked him soon after.

 

Fast forward to today, Yachty reflects on his past words with regret. He acknowledged that both Nicki Minaj and Cardi B are incredibly talented and have earned their places at the top of the music industry. “I really just… I hate that I even answered that question, ’cause I kind of just inserted myself in something that had nothing to do with me,” Yachty confessed.

 

Yachty went on to explain that he still respects both women and has grown since the incident. When asked about his thoughts on Nicki Minaj, he shared, “She just glows like a light beam… She’s short, she’s beautiful.” He also expressed how intimidated he felt when meeting her in person, admitting he was “so scared” to talk to her.

 

Despite the beef between Nicki and some of her fellow female artists, including Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, Yachty made it clear that he respects and loves all women in the industry, praising other rising stars like Glorilla, Sexy Red, and Ice Spice. He even took a moment to express his admiration for how these women are elevating the game.

 

Addressing the intense backlash from the Barbz (Nicki’s fans), Yachty admitted that he used to be part of the group and still holds a deep respect for Nicki. “I get it,” he said. “I love Nicki. I still do.” He then went on to issue a heartfelt apology to both Nicki and Cardi for his actions, saying, “Cardi didn’t ask me to speak for her… I apologize to all that.” He emphasized that he would never again involve himself in something that didn’t concern him.
