In a recent appearance on The Tonight Show, Olivia Rodrigo opened up about her whirlwind experience on the GUTS World Tour, including a surprising encounter with law enforcement.
Rodrigo shared that while traveling from Canada to Portland, she was unexpectedly called into an interrogation room at border control. “I thought maybe a fan wanted an autograph,” she laughed, recalling her confusion when a big cop began questioning her about any prior arrests. “I panicked! After 30 minutes of interrogation, it turned out they mistook me for someone else with a similar name who has a criminal record,” she explained, clearly relieved that it was just a case of mistaken identity.
Beyond the drama at the border, Rodrigo reflected on the tour’s highlights, especially her recent trip to the Philippines. “It was incredibly special to perform there, and the fans sang my lyrics perfectly,” she said, glowing with pride about connecting with her heritage.
She also shared amusing anecdotes, including a moment during a concert in Australia where she fell through a hole in the stage. “It was scary, but in hindsight, it felt meaningful. After the fall, the nurse who checked on me shared my grandfather’s name, which felt like a sign that he was looking out for me,” she recalled.
Rodrigo didn’t forget to highlight her friendship with Chappell Roan, who opened for her on tour. “We’ve known each other for years, and she’s in my concert film as well,” she said. Their bond goes back to when they first connected through their shared producer. “I’m so proud of her and everything she’s accomplished,” Rodrigo added, emphasizing their supportive friendship.
