In a heartfelt conversation, Terry Crews opened up about the journey he and his wife have taken to navigate the changes in their 35-year marriage. Reflecting on their long relationship, he emphasized the importance of embracing change, both personally and within their partnership.
“Wow, what a beautiful question,” Terry began, when discussing the inevitability of change in long-term relationships. “In our 35 years together, my wife and I have both transformed numerous times. There was a pivotal moment around year 20 when we were on the brink of separation. It was a challenging period, and we realized we were becoming two different people.”
Terry shared that it took nearly five years of therapy and counseling to understand that both he and his wife were evolving. “I had to learn to wake up each day and ask myself, ‘Who are you today? What do you need? How can I support you?’” This daily practice of connection helped them rebuild their relationship.
He also introduced a powerful mantra that helped him through difficult times: “Everyone on Earth is doing the best they can with the wisdom they have.” This perspective allowed him to forgive himself and his wife for past mistakes, acknowledging that they were both simply doing the best they could with the knowledge they had at the time. “As I grew, my understanding deepened, which helped me let go of what no longer served me.”
Terry recounted how his daughter, Olive, frequently reminds him of the importance of action. “She always says, ‘If you want to do something, just do it—don’t overthink it.’” This straightforward approach has inspired him, especially during his early days as a new dad, feeling overwhelmed by the responsibilities of parenthood and his career.
Reflecting on his career, Terry discussed a transformative experience while filming “Blended” in Africa. “It was my first time in Africa, and it changed me in so many ways. The beauty of the land, the culture, and the people grounded me. I even visited Nelson Mandela’s childhood home and Robben Island. Those experiences were profound reminders of resilience and healing.”
In sharing his journey, Terry Crews highlighted that navigating changes in a relationship can be challenging, but with open communication, understanding, and a willingness to grow together, couples can emerge stronger than ever.
