In a recent interview, Shakur Stevenson shared his thoughts on the rising talent, Floyd Schofield, and offered a critical assessment of his potential. Stevenson, known for his sharp insights into the boxing world, believes that while Schofield has natural athleticism and explosiveness, he still needs to refine his skills to succeed at the highest level.
“He’s got some similarities to other fighters, but if he doesn’t add more to his game, people will catch on,” Stevenson explained. “He has to stop lunging in like he does because that’s too obvious. I pointed it out while watching his fight, and I could see it coming every time. It might be a short night for him if he doesn’t adjust.”
Stevenson recalled sparring with Schofield, revealing a critical moment in their training. “We were supposed to do six rounds, but after three or four, he started running. He just couldn’t handle the pressure, and we had to pull him out of the ring early. It’s not about calling him out, but the fact is, he needs to adjust his game if he wants to move up in competition.”
Despite the critique, Stevenson still sees potential in Schofield but is clear on what needs to change. “He’s a good fighter, no doubt. He’s got talent, and he’s young. But he’s still fighting the same way he did in sparring—nothing new. If he wants to be a top fighter, he needs to evolve.”
Stevenson emphasized that Schofield has time to develop but needs to put in the work. “He’s athletic, explosive, and has a lot of potential, but he’s still lacking some of the fundamental skills. He needs to figure that out, or he’s going to be figured out by the top guys.”
This version clarifies Shakur Stevenson’s thoughts on Floyd Schofield’s skills and what adjustments he believes Schofield must make to succeed in the future.
