Country singer Zach Bryan is apologizing after facing backlash for his controversial tweets comparing Taylor Swift and Kanye West. The incident occurred on September 18, when Bryan tweeted: “Eagles are greater than Chiefs,” followed by “Kanye is greater than Taylor,” and asked, “who’s with me?” The tweet quickly garnered attention, as it contained multiple references to Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, and the well-known feud between Swift and Kanye West.
Swifties were quick to respond, and in the wake of the backlash, Bryan deleted his Twitter account (formerly known as X). On the morning of September 19, Bryan posted a lengthy message on his Instagram Story apologizing for his actions. He explained, “For the record guys, I wasn’t coming for Taylor the other night. I was drunkenly comparing two records and it came out wrong.”
While acknowledging the longstanding conflict between Taylor and Kanye, the 28-year-old singer clarified, “I know there’s a lot of stuff that clouds around Yay (Kanye), and I was speaking purely musically. I love Taylor’s music, and pray you guys know I’m human and tweet stupid things often.” Bryan admitted that Twitter had caused him trouble too many times and stated, “I’d say it’s best I stay off it.” He expressed his apologies to any Taylor Swift fans he may have upset and reassured them, saying, “Love you guys and I’m trying my best.”
Bryan also shared more personal thoughts, revealing that he had been going through a tough time in his own life and was “projecting a little.” He went on to praise Swift, stating, “I respect her so much as a musician, and the last thing I want is people thinking I don’t appreciate and love what she has done for music.”
